Privacy Policy

ScienceWerx (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect information when you use our website and services, including features that let you sign in or connect using LinkedIn.

1. 1.Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, such as your name, email address, and any details submitted through forms. If you choose to sign in with LinkedIn, we may receive basic profile information from LinkedIn (such as your name, email address, profile picture, and headline), limited to what is necessary to provide our service, and only with your consent.

We may also collect technical information automatically, such as browser type, IP address, and usage data through cookies or similar technologies.

2. 2.How We Use Information

We use collected information to operate and improve our website and services, to communicate with you, to personalize your experience, and to comply with legal obligations.

Data obtained via LinkedIn's API is used only to provide the specific features you've authorized, such as authenticating your identity or displaying your professional profile information within our service. We do not use LinkedIn data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

3. 3.How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with service providers who help us operate our website (such as hosting or analytics providers), under confidentiality obligations, or when required by law. We do not share data obtained through LinkedIn's API with any third party except as necessary to provide the service you requested.

4. 4.Data Storage and Retention

We store data only for as long as necessary to provide our services or as required by law. Any LinkedIn access tokens or profile data are retained only while your account with us remains active and are deleted upon account closure or your request, consistent with LinkedIn's API Terms of Use.

5. 5.Your Rights and Choices

You may withdraw your consent to LinkedIn data access at any time by disconnecting your LinkedIn account within your account settings or by contacting us directly. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us at info@sciencewerx.org. We will honor deletion requests promptly, except where retention is required by law.

6. 6.Cookies

Our website may use cookies or similar technologies to support functionality and analytics. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings.

7. 7.Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

8. 8.Children's Privacy

Our services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. 9.Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.

10. 10.Knowledge Base Capture (Chrome Extension)

Our “Knowledge Base Capture” Chrome extension lets signed-in ScienceWerx staff and affiliates save a page, a text selection, or a note into our internal Knowledge Base without leaving the browser. It works only for people with a ScienceWerx account.

What it collects. When you sign in through the extension's connect page, it stores your authentication token, name, email address, and user ID in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) so you don't have to sign in again every time. When you open the extension's popup or explicitly save something, it reads the current page's title, URL, description, and any text you've selected, in order to show you a preview and, only if you click Save, submit it to the Knowledge Base on your behalf. It does not read or store your browsing history, and it does not transmit page content anywhere unless you take that action.

Where it goes. This data is sent only to ScienceWerx's own servers (sciencewerx.org) to authenticate you and save your capture — never to any third party, and never used for advertising. It is handled under the same protections described elsewhere in this policy.

Your control. You can sign out of the extension at any time from its Options page, which clears the stored token from your browser, or remove the extension entirely from chrome://extensions, which deletes all of its local storage.
